2016 Annual Mobile Dinner
April 7, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
We are pleased to announce this year’s Annual Mobile Dinner on April 7, 2016 featuring United States Senator Tom Coburn, M.D.!
Senator Tom Coburn once said, “We have two forms of conservatism in Washington. One is cheap or complacent conservatism; the other is costly or courageous conservatism. One is common, the other is rare.” Tom Coburn’s legacy is unequivocally the latter.
A medical doctor, Coburn served Oklahoma as a U.S. Congressman from 1994 to 2000 and a U.S. Senator from 2004 to 2014-but his focus in office was never limited to matters affecting only his state. Coburn is a deficit hawk and a champion of fiscal responsibility. For his refusal to stand aside while Congress “mortgages the future of [their] children and grandchildren,” he earned the nickname, “Dr. No.”
Coburn is largely credited with ushering in the end of the earmark era due, in part, to his annual publication of Wastebook-an extensive report highlighting the “stupid spending” of billions of taxpayer dollars. Coburn has taken the fight for conservatism straight to the American public, authoring two books, Breach of Trust and The Debt Bomb.
Since his retirement from the Senate in January 2015, Senator Coburn’s speaking engagements have been rare. API is honored that he has agreed to serve as the keynote speaker for our 2016 Mobile Dinner.
