API senior fellow J. Pepper Bryars recently discussed the importance of fathers and the devastating impact that fatherlessness is having in Alabama on Archangel Radio, WNGL 1410 AM and 94.5 FM in Mobile.

Bryars referenced date from the Alabama Department of Public Health that showed from 2005-2017 the percentage of births to unmarried women in Alabama skyrocketed from 35% to more than 47%.

“In Alabama, nearly half of all babies are born to unmarried mothers,” Bryars said, adding that nearly every problem in society, from education to health to crime, can be tracked back to dad-deprived homes.
