BIRMINGHAM, AL The recently House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act, also known as the Waxman-Markey bill or cap-and-trade, is a bill which if passed would create havoc in our economy. Estimates are that this legislation will raise electricity rates by an astounding 90 percent; gasoline costs by 74 percent; and the cost of natural gas by 55 percent. The bill is now in the U.S. Senate awaiting debate.
